I paint to learn, to understand my subject in whatever ways are open to me; to discover new truths about the world and myself. I paint to improve my skills so that I may better express my feelings about the subject, while maintaining its essential truth.
Painting offers me a blissful state of mind where time, place, and preconceptions no longer exist; I am one with my subject. Painting is a gift I give myself.
